How To Make a Grilled Cheese in the Microwave

by Simully

A grilled cheese sandwich is one of the best comfort meals. It’s delicious and it only takes a few minutes to make it. Both children and the elderly enjoy eating it any time of the day. If you’re craving a grilled cheese sandwich and want to make it quickly in the microwave, here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do that.

Things You’ll Need

  • Two slices of bread
  • Cheese
  • A spread

Instructions

1. Choose Your Bread

When it comes to making a sandwich, white bread is what is traditionally used. However, if you want to go for a healthier option, you can choose multigrain or flax bread. The choice is yours. You can even experiment with different options and try different types of bread.

Make sure you choose slices of bread without holes or bubbles, or else your cheese may spill out through the holes as it melts. If you’ve just bought fresh bread from the market, it is a good idea to leave it for a day or two before using it to make sandwiches. Fresh bread can have moisture which will make your sandwich soggy.

You can use day-old bread, but make sure you check there is no mold growing on it. Dry bread makes the best sandwiches in the microwave.

2. Choose Your Cheese

For a grilled cheese sandwich, the cheeses that are commonly used are American and Cheddar. But when it comes to choosing cheese, the options are endless. Gouda, Brie and Munster are all great options as they melt smoothly in the microwave.

Avoid using feta, Parmesan and goat cheese. These cheeses are crumbly and don’t go well with sandwiches. They won’t melt in the microwave and your sandwich will be tasteless. If you want, you can add Parmesan after grating it and then mixing it with Cheddar cheese for some extra flavor.

3. Choose Your Spread

Butter is commonly used as a spread while making grilled cheese sandwiches. If you want a richer flavor, you can also choose margarine or mayonnaise.

4. Extra Ingredients

For adding more flavors to your cheese sandwich, you add some extra ingredients such as pickles, jalapenos, onions or tomato. Of course, you can skip all of these if you’re craving a classic grilled cheese sandwich.

Adding extra vegetables or meat can be a great way to make your sandwich more nutritious and filling. If you want to increase your protein intake, you can add a slice of turkey, ham or any other deli meat. These ingredients may make your sandwich soggy so be careful to wipe off the extra moisture.

5. Assembling Everything

Now that you’ve chosen what you want to put in your sandwich, it’s time to finally make it. Take your bread slices and spread butter on both of them on one side. Put a generous amount of cheese between the two slices. Add any extra ingredients if you want. Put the slices together on a microwave-safe plate.

Put the plate in the microwave and let the sandwich cook for up to a minute. Depending on your microwave settings, it may take longer. Keep an eye out to make sure your sandwich doesn’t burn away. Once the timer goes off, take out your sandwich and check if the cheese has melted properly.

If it hasn’t, you need to put the plate back and let it cook for a few more seconds.

Making a grilled cheese sandwich in the microwave is easy and fast. You can do it whenever you’re craving something delicious without needing too many ingredients. With these instructions, you can easily make a grilled cheese sandwich in the microwave in no time.
